The mighty Zambezi river makes a great entrance into Zambia by crashing down into a 100 meter deep gorge. Subsequently the river forms the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. All the guidebooks will tell you that you can walk along the top of the falls with low water all the way to Livingstone Island, and sit in many of the pools at the edge. The best place to be however is at the bottom of the falls around sunrise early morning.

Now to get the best view, I’m not sure how to arrange that, maybe you can get a raft guide to bring you? I was “lucky”, I brought a boat. We crossed the river, hiked up the first rapid, got back in the boat and paddled to the bottom of the more or less dry falls on the Zambian side. The view includes steep canyon walls, class V rapids, the waterfalls of the Zimbabwe side with the best thing: a rainbow connecting one canyon wall with the other…
