A Picknick in Avignon

France…too many guides have been written and everybody that has done some travelling has been there, especially Dutch. France has become such a backyard country that most people I meet now state that “Europe is soooo last century, I only go faaaar away”. Right…

Since indeed there is a lot on the net about France and thus Avignon, I will keep this short. Besides that the city of Avignon itself is of awe-inspiring beauty, and the pope’s palace needs to be visited, the best thing to do when you’re there is to have a picknick.

When you walk “”sur le pont d’Avignon” you will notice that the bridge doesn’t extend all the way to the other side of the river. This is nothing new, but it does however point you to the place you want to go. It took me some time to find out the right exit onto the island but in the end I got it. You can drive to a parking spot next to a campsite along the river. Then you continue walking a bit till you feel awe-inspired by the view. You sit there till the sun drops with a bottle of wine and whatever other French goodies you like. Good times…
